Galvanized, Ipswich’s festival of heritage, is back across 10 days from 5-14 September with a fantastic lineup of historical events and experiences. Be transported back in time by visiting iconic venues and historic sites and participating in open days, tours, demonstrations, workshops and social events.
Dance at The Baker’s Ball

Take a step back in time with a night of vintage fun! The Baker’s Ball features swing dance classes, a progressive (1940s inspired) dinner and drinks at three beautiful historic locations throughout Marburg. Guests are encouraged to dress to the period for this event, the theme is 1940s glamour. This year a children’s ticket has also been introduced.
The Baker’s Ball is being held on Saturday 13 September from 5.30pm-11.00pm at various locations in Marburg.
Attend Steam & Smoke BBQ

Steam & Smoke BBQ is being held on Father’s Day, during Galvanized. There will be a bevy of BBQ and steam-themed food trucks, spicy delights, music, games and more! Dad can whet his whistle with a craft beer or local gin at the pop-up bar, watch BBQ demonstrations and peruse a display of vintage vehicles.
The Steam and Smoke BBQ will be held on Sunday 7 September from 9.30am-4pm at Queensland Museum Rail Workshops.
Hear about haunted histories

You can learn the haunted histories of Ipswich with four ghost tours during Galvanized. Ghost Tours Australia will be running their Haunted CBD Ghost Tour on 5 and 12 September, their Goodna Cemetery Haunted History Tour on 13 September and an Ipswich Cemetery Ghost Tour on 6 September.
You can also hear ghost stories at Cooneana After Dark on 5 September.
Learn about lost trades and arts

Pick up a new skill with blacksmithing workshops, leathercraft belt workshop and ink printing workshops. There’s also a presentation on character homes, the Ipswich Antique Centre and more. See the watch and learn page.
Join a heritage tour

Join like-minded history buffs on a tour of Ipswich to learn about the history of the city. Choose from a Heritage Architect Tour on 14 September, Where History Rests (tour of the Ipswich Cemetery on 6 September), Lost Ipswich City Walks (6, 7, 13 and 14 September), Old Courthouse Tours (6 September), historical Hot Air Balloon Flights (5-14 September) and Summer Land Camels history tours (5-14 September). There’s also bus tours exploring historic pubs and buildings.
Visit for an open day

During Galvanized the Ipswich Art Gallery will be running a First Nation’s art exhibition, the St Paul’s Anglican Annual Quilt and Craft Show will be running and you can visit the Ipswich Freemasons (82A Nicholas Street, Ipswich). There will also be a Park and Pose event, Picture Ipswich challenge, and the chance to visit the Ipswich Antique Centre.

Taste your way through Heritage Ipswich

Ipswich is home to some of the most stunningly designed heritage buildings which now house some fabulous restaurants, pubs and breweries. During Galvanized you can learn all about the history of such venues by booking in a Historical Brewing Tour and Tasting at Stony Creek Brewing (6, 10 and 14 September) or the Rubbidy Dubs to Pubs Mystery Bus Tour (6 September) for a very fun weekend. Don’t stop there, make a reservation to dine your way through heritage Ipswich at Bakehouse Steakhouse, The Cottage Restaurant, Hotel Commonwealth, Prince Alfred Hotel and Jets.
