Events not to miss during the Planes, Trains and Autos weekend

The annual 2024 Planes, Trains and Autos Festival promises an exciting array of events and activities for enthusiasts of all ages. Here’s a snapshot of what you can expect throughout the May long weekend in Ipswich. 

Fully Charged

Fully Charged

Saturday 4 May experience a huge day out at Planes, Trains, Autos presents Fully Charged held at the Queensland Museum Rail Workshops.

Watch the sky come alive with incredible aerobatic displays from the terrific Sky Aces Formation Aerobatic Team featuring a Wolf Pitts Pro and Zivko Edge 540 aircraft. Whilst on the ground attendees have the chance to interact with a variety of brand-new inclusions such as radio-controlled model aircraft, racing drones, remote control cars and V8’s to name a few. Crowd favourites like Royal Australian Defence Force machinery and Superkarts will also return to the family-friendly event.

Attendees looking to extend their experience can purchase tickets to take a round trip on a historic bus from the Fully Charged event to Queensland Pioneer Steam Railways’ open day for a ride on diesel hauled train!

QPSR Train Rides

On Saturday 4 May the Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway will be offering 30 minute vintage diesel hauled train rides.

You can catch a Heritage Bus from Fully Charged for $8pp or park onsite at the Ipswich Turf Club.  Trains depart the Ipswich Turf Club at 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm.

Park and Pose

Planes Trains and Autos

Later Saturday evening, Park and Pose is on from 5pm with a variety of classic and muscle cars on display in the Nicholas Street Precinct. With live music and a variety of dining options it is the perfect way to end the day.

Grandchester Model Live Steam Running Day

Sunday 5 May take a country drive and enjoy the Grandchester Model Live Steam Association Running Day. Experience the charm of a real railway station with scaled-down versions of coal-burning steam engines which you can ride on! The event is always a big hit with the kids and adults alike, rides are $3 per person, tickets can be purchased at the gate. (Please note it is cash only).

Cars and Coffee

Cars and Coffee at Woodlands of Marburg

After the train rides head to Woodlands of Marburg for the Cars and Coffee Event. You will be able to enjoy the picturesque backdrop of the historic mansion, amongst the rolling hills while admiring classic cars and socialising. An ideal spot for lunch too at Tommy Smith Café.

Queensland Retro Picnic

The Queensland Retro Picnic will be held on May 6

Round out the long weekend with the Queensland Retro Picnic on Monday 6 May. Hot rods, classic cars, muscle cars, bikes, street food, and live music create a vibrant atmosphere for all to enjoy at Evan Marginson Park, Goodna.
