Six events not to miss during the Planes, Trains and Autos weekend

From April 28 – May 1 the City of Ipswich is celebrating all things rail, air and motors with Plains, Trains and Autos which includes exciting events such as Round 3 of the Australian Superbike Championship at Queensland Raceway, a train ride experience with Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway, Park and Pose in the heart of the Ipswich CBD, Queensland Auto Spectacular at Willowbank Raceway, and Queensland Retro Picnic and Car Display.  Read about all the events below and start planning your weekend!

Australian Superbike Championship

Australian Superbike Championship ASBK

The Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) returns to Queensland Raceway for a weekend of two-wheel action.  There will be five classes of motorcycle racing and one class of car racing, 16 races across the weekend and three days of on-track action.

There is also an opportunity to meet the riders, listen to a Q&A session and get a poster signed on Friday April 28 from 6.50pm-7.30pm at Tulmur Place.  Stick around and enjoy some Cold Chisel and AC/DC classics by Australia’s Favourite Sons live in concert until 9pm.

Planes, Trains and Autos

Planes Trains and Autos

The Planes, Trains and Autos event will be held on Saturday April 29 from 9am-4pm at The Workshops Rail Musuem.  Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for concession and children aged 3-15.

On the day there will be ground displays and themed activities and in the air, formation fly-pasts and aerobatic displays.

QPSR Train Rides

On Saturday April 29, the Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway will be offering 30 minute vintage diesel hauled train rides.

You can catch a Heritage Bus from The Workshops Rail Museum for $8pp or park onsite at the Ipswich Turf Club.  Trains depart the Ipswich Turf Club at 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm.

Park and Pose

Park and Pose is coming to Nicholas Street

Also on Saturday April 29 there is a chance to get up close to some of Ipswich’s spectacular cars as they come through Nicholas Street.  Enjoy live music, dinner at a nearby restaurant or food trucks and a display of vehicles from the Classic and Muscle Car Club of Ipswich at the Park and Pose event from 5.30pm-8pm.

Queensland Auto Spectacular

Queensland Auto Spectacular

On Sunday April 30 head to Willowbank Raceway for the Queensland Auto Spectacular.  The event will run from 7am-3pm with a huge range of cars on display from historic to muscle, Shannon’s Show and Shine, Rocker Cover Racing, rides and entertainment for the family, trade stalls and quarter mile drag racing.

Retro Picnic

Retro Picnic at Goodna

Enjoy a social outing with hot rods, classic and muscle cars and bikes, street food and live music.  The Retro Picnic event is being held on Monday May 1 from 2pm-6pm at Evan Marginson Park, Goodna and includes free kids activities, market stalls, an outdoor bar, food trucks and live band.
