The wait is over for three highly anticipated openings in the Nicholas Street Precinct. On Friday 8 November Hotel Commonwealth, HOYTS and General Public will open.
Hotel Commonwealth, one of Ipswich’s most iconic pubs has finished a beautiful heritage restoration. It’s history began in the late 19th century when it was a central hub for locals and travelers. Over the decades it became a gathering place for community events and celebrations and now following years of careful preservation it had reopened with a blend of traditional charm and modern amenities.
They are open for lunch and dinner bookings and will be at full capacity on Friday 8 November when it officially opens. The menu includes small plates with house-made pork and fennel sausage rolls to large plates designed for sharing and everything in between. There are also bar snacks you can enjoy with a drink, which will change weekly and seasonal dishes.
Queensland’s first General Public “Eatertainery” is also opening on Friday 8 November. General Public is a one-of-a-kind venue that combines fun, food and nostalgia. It features 14 tenpin bowling lanes, arcade games, golf simulators and pool tables.
The first movie screening at the new HOYTS six-screen cinema is also set for this week with the first screening on Thursday 8 November.
To celebrate the openings Kimberley Bowden (The Voice 2019) will perform on Friday from 4pm-8pm to kick off the inaugural Live Music Fridays in the precinct. There will also be the chance to win prizes, roving entertainment, face painters and a photo booth on Friday from 4pm-8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11am-5pm.
The Handmade Market will also be on during the opening weekend on Saturday from 9am-1pm.
