In Ipswich Central you can enjoy a whole day exploring art, antiques and animals for free!  Just jump on the train or pack the car for a fun day out!

Ipswich Art Gallery

The Ipswich Art Gallery is a fantastic family-friendly experience located in the heart of Ipswich Central.  It features a children’s gallery space as well as touring exhibitions and it’s a great spot to spark your creativity.  If you’ve caught the train walk through to Nicholas St and up to d’Arcy Doyle Place, if you’re parked in the Nicholas St Precinct Car Park, walk up the street to access the gallery.

Head to the Ipswich Children’s Library where you can feed life-sized dinosaurs colourful scarves through an interactive pipe experience, design your own colourful fish and watch them swim around a digital display, or enjoy an augmented reality butterfly experience.  It’s located in Tulmur Place above the Nicholas St car park.

Ipswich Street Art Trail

There’s a free self-guided walking trail available showcasing bright murals in Ipswich Central.  Check out the Ipswich Street Art Trail and see how many public art works you can visit.  You’ll find art on your way up Nicholas Street and also along Brisbane Street.

Queens Park

If you love being outdoors check out Queens Park.  It is full of beautiful trees and plants, including a Bush Chapel, a glass house and a green house.  There’s also a kids playground and cafe.

Queens Park is a 17 minute walk from the art gallery, or a five minute drive.

Ipswich Nature Centre

Located inside Queens Park you’ll find the Ipswich Nature Centre.  It is home to native Australian animals like bilbies, quolls and dingoes as well as barnyard friends – including a bull that loves to be brushed.  It’s free to enter but gold coin donations are appreciated.

Environmental Education Centre

If you’re in Queens Park, stop by the Environmental Education Centre.  There are interactive displays and sensory boxes designed for children to learn about the natural environment.

Ipswich Antique Centre

Housed in a heritage building, the Ipswich Antique Centre is a treasure trove of antiques and collectables allowing families to take a step back in time.  Ipswich Antique Centre is located on East Street, a seven minute walk from the art gallery.

Last but not least, when the weather is nice you can enjoy free water play in Tulmur Place.  There are changing rooms located a few metres away and the kids will love the spurting water!
