Your teens might be too old to hang out with Thomas at The Workshops Rail Museum these days, but there are still plenty of things to keep them (and you) entertained in and around Ipswich.

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

Cycle Australia’s longest rail trail or just do a section or two and enjoy picturesque rural scenery and a warm welcome at friendly towns that are evenly spaced along the way. All you need is a mountain bike, plenty of water and your sense of adventure.  Find out more on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail here.

Floating Images Hot Air Balloon Flights

Floating Images Hot Air Balloon Flights

It takes something pretty special to get a teenager out of bed before sunrise, but soaring over Ipswich in a Floating Images hot air balloon is definitely worth it. From the distant high rise of Brisbane’s CBD to a mob of kangaroos bouncing through the bush, it is amazing how much you can see from the air.

Hit the hiking trails

Take it easy with a 45 minute stroll around Galmen Circuit in the Flinders-Goolman Conservation Estate or tackle the more challenging walk to Rocky Knoll Lookout which offers great scenic views of Brisbane and Ipswich along the way. If you would prefer something flat, you can also walk the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.

For more hiking options see here.

Willowbank Raceway

Watch the records tumble at the Winternationals, the largest championship drag racing event outside North America. This year’s event has been postponed but stay tuned for the next event at Willowbank Raceway which will include flame-throwing dragsters, cars popping wheelies and driver signing sessions.

Alternatively head over to Queensland Raceway this September to see classic cars at Powercruise.

City Lights Walk at White Rock

moonrisenew

Enjoy the spectacular show that takes place high in the skies over Ipswich each night on a City Lights Walk at White Rock. This guided walk starts with a stroll through the bush and wildlife spotting and finishes with a spectacular show as the lights of Brisbane sparkle in the distance.

Ungermann Brothers

Ever tried bacon ice cream? What about lavender? Well, now is your chance. Ungermann Brothers’ electro swing music and retro blue lounges create a vibe that’s as cool as their gourmet ice-cream which features delicious local ingredients.

The Soul Nook Collective

The Soul Nook Collective

Get crafty at The Soul Nook Collective, a charming boutique, café and artist collective housed in the Old Church in Marburg. Classes include Crystal Bracelet Making, Boho Posies, Paint n’ Picnic and more or you can just stop for a coffee, soak up the sun and check out the boutique.
