Located within heritage listed Queens Park, the Nerima Gardens is an unique attraction that celebrates two cultures; Japanese and Australian flora and design elements combine harmoniously to create a place of intrigue, beauty and tranquility that is highlighted on this exciting tour.
The Japanese Tea Ceremony tours at Nerima Gardens are now taking bookings. Book in early to avoid disappointment – these sessions book out quickly and small group numbers are guaranteed. Tours are run from March through to October. Numbers are strictly limited and bookings essential. This tour has been re-set to comply with social distancing and health considerations in line with the proposed phases as set out in the Queensland Government’s Roadmap to easing Queensland’s Restrictions – a step down approach to COVID-19. Enjoy a guided tour of Nerima Gardens with interpretation of key design elements that infuse both the Australian and Japanese cultures. Arrive at the Tea House to view the Japanese tea ceremony; a traditional cultural activity involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha (powdered green tea). Guests will have the opportunity to participate in the ceremony, participants will need to take off their shoes and sit on the floor which is covered with tatami mats. Observers will have access to bench seating with easy views of the ceremony. Light refreshments will conclude your tea experience.
Tour departs at the entry gates to the Nerima Gardens and duration is approx. two hours, concluding at the tea house in Nerima Gardens. Guests should arrive 15 minutes prior to departure times.

Please note: This tour does not cater to infants or toddlers, however, infants are free when accompanied by an adult or carer.
Free parking is available on Burley Griffin Drive within Queens Park.
This tour is accessible friendly, however, inclined pathways and boardwalks are traversed. Participants should have a general fitness to walk approx.30 minutes. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat.
The Japanese Tea Ceremonies are performed on the last Saturday of each month on the dates listed below. Guests are invited to book ahead to secure their attendance*.
*Please note that a minimum of 8 people per session is required for tours to proceed. Guests will be contacted 72 hours prior to cancellation if applicable.
