Netball bringing 18,000 visitors
Ipswich hosts the Nissan State Age Netball Championship this month and that means a whole lot of visitors will be coming to the heritage city – about 18,000 of them in total.
The action runs from July 7 to 10 with more than 240 teams – in age groups from 12 and under to 15 and under – from across the state competing.
“State Age is our biggest event all year – it’s massive,” Netball Queensland media manager Tom Mitchell said.
More than 40 associations are represented and for the first time ever, boys teams are included in the competition.
Players and spectators will need to keep their eyes peeled for Firebirds players who will be making appearances throughout the event.
Netballers will be coming from as far away as Mareeba, Innisfail and Biloela.
Ipswich was able to secure the netball this year with organisers impressed by the Ipswich Netball Association club and facilities at Limestone Park.
The event is one of several major events Ipswich will host this year with Supercars Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint at Queensland Raceway on July 20. In March, the annual CMC Rocks brought 30,000 country music fans out to Willowbank Raceway.
