Ipswich Historical Society
Guided Museum Tour
At Cooneana Heritage Centre you will find a unique homestead built in 1868 together with many displays that show aspects of the varied history of Ipswich and surrounds.
Coal mines were a huge employer in the town’s early and recent history. Cooneana is the only museum in Ipswich displaying coal mining equipment, Mines Safety Brigade equipment and a selection of stories and artefacts from the industry. Some of our tour guides worked at Box Flat mine when it exploded in 1972.
Inclusions:

- Blacksmith’s forge built to the design of a historical forge
