In a busy modern world, many are casting aside stress by discovering the benefits of meditation.  “It’s about slowing down, slowing your mind, focusing on your breathing and just getting back into yourself,” says Ipswich’s Ulli Hendry.

“It’s about switching off your mind,” she said.

“When people are just starting out in meditation I ask people just to close their eyes and listen to their breathing and by doing that, you quieten your mind.

“A lot of people get something out of it right away. Even just five minutes a day can make a big difference to your health. I find it helps with stress – you get back into your breathing and tell yourself I can handle this.”

Ulli also loves sharing her extensive knowledge of crystals with customers at the shop she has run for 13 years, Ulli’s New Age Rockz, in the Ipswich Mall.

The business sponsors meditation sessions run by the Universal Spiritual Centre on the second Sunday of the month at the Cambridge St Scout Hall at Silkstone. Cost is $5.

When he's not busy showing tourists around, blogging or hanging out with his cute and fluffy mates at the Nature Centre, he likes to hit the gym for a leg session, graze on quinoa salad and ponder the possibilities of the universe.
