The 52nd Gulf Western Oil Winternationals will be officially launched with a major community event at Orion Springfield Shopping Centre on Sunday May 26. The launch will feature vehicle displays, meet and greet opportunities with the racers including photos and autographs, ticket and prize give aways, Winternationals merchandise and more.
A centre piece of the day will be the debut of a new version of the Winternationals Billy Cart Bash for kids that was originally run with great success in Ipswich back in the 90s.
Junior sporting and community clubs nominated two person teams to compete for trophies for the winners and a share of $2,000 in prize money to go to their club. Kids up to 13 years will race in identical billy karts specially constructed for the event by the Ipswich Men’s Shed.
The competition will be conducted just like real drag racing with Christmas Tree starting lights sending two karts at a time down the 40 metre course in Main Street at Orion. The victors proceed into the next round while the losers bow out at that point.
The winning Boy’s and Girl’s teams will win $500 each for their organisation with the runner’s up receiving $300 and the third place getters $200. All entrants will also receive a Winternationals Billy Kart Bash T-Shirt for taking part.
The Gulf Western Oil 52nd Winternationals will be held over June 6-9, enter here to win tickets.
