Banshees Bar boosts live music scene
Ipswich has a new live music venue – Banshees Bar & Art space. Owners Kenneth and Nina Weaver are passionate about supporting original artists and ensuring the live music scene thrives in the heritage city.

The couple, who opened the bar with Nina’s brother Tom Douglas Powell, are bringing a wide variety of performers to the space. From locals to touring bands, covering everything from punk and alternative genres to rockabilly and country.
The trio renovated, painted and modified the former bridal shop space, which was once a chemist. They added a sound wall and lined the vast interior with modernist-looking pairs of seats. A whole busload of them – to create an interesting and welcoming ambience.
Regular art shows will also be staged here.

“It’s about art, live music and community… we want this to be a safe, comfortable space for everybody, ” Kenneth said.
Open mic nights on Wednesdays and karaoke on Thursdays are a part of the line-up. The space is also available for private functions.

Banshees Bar & Art space is open from 5pm to midnight on Wednesday, noon-midnight Thursday and Friday. Then from 5pm to midnight on Saturdays.
