The Ipswich Historical Society have an Open Day during school holidays for the entire family to enjoy!
The Cooneana Heritage Centre is opening up on Sunday 27 September for pre-booked sessions 10am-12pm and 12pm-2pm in line with restrictions under a COVID safe event plan. The cost for entry is $5 per person or $15 for a family of up to five.
You can expect to see demonstrations and yesteryear skills on display by the blacksmiths , fabric art by the Spinners and Weavers, kitchen demonstrations using authentic kitchen tools and gadgets, a spot of washing with a washboard and soap and then head along to school where an old classroom set up awaits!
There will be old fashioned fun games like skipping, tug of war, hopscotch, knuckles, croquet and quoits. Muster up your craft making skills and create a doll from a dolly peg or make a picture of a settlers hut with glue, bark and grass.
See how much coal you can shovel in the coal shoveling competition and check out a WWII Jeep at the communication station. There will also be puzzles, colouring in and take home activities for smaller kids and you’ll be able to see the restored Cooneana Homestead.
Bring a picnic hamper along and enjoy a family picnic to make the most of your visit*
