Bird Spotting at Cameron’s Scrub – FULLY BOOKED

Enjoy a fun and educational guided tour with Council’s environment team and guest, Cesar Peuchmarin, wildlife photographer, vet student, wildlife vet nurse, writer, podcaster and filmmaker, while getting a unique experience to explore Cameron’s Scrub (Kholo Enviroplan Reserve) and learn more about the wildlife that are local to Ipswich.

Take in the large hoop pines, tracts of dry vine rainforest, and Eucalypts while listening and looking out for over 130 different bird species including the Black Breasted Button Quail, the White Bellied Sea Eagle, and the many other birds that call the estate home.

Please arrive promptly at 6:30am for a 7am start.
Don’t forget to bring your binoculars, hat and a water bottle.
This event is suitable for children over 10 years. Capacity on this walk is limited, so we encourage you to register online to avoid missing out.

Date: Saturday 20 July, 2024.

Time: Meet at 6.30am for a 7.00am start, the walk will conclude by 9.00am.
Please plan ahead to arrive on time as courtesy to other guests, so the tour can depart and return on time.  Unfortunately the tour cannot be delayed for latecomers.

Where: Parking is available at the entrance to the Cameron’s Scrub Reserve, across from 801 – 837 Riverside Drive

Cost: $10 per person, or $20 for a family (up to 5 in a family, 2A and up to 3C, or 1A and up to 4 children).

Important Information:

  • Strictly no large coaches at this site.
  • No pets allowed at Cameron’s Scrub as it is part of a Conservation Estate.
  • This is an outdoor event with some uneven surfaces. We encourage you to wear enclosed shoes, bring a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle.

About Kholo Enviroplan Reserve (Cameron’s Scrub)

In the suburb of Pine Mountain, next to the Brisbane River, is 158 hectares originally known as Cameron’s Scrub, but recently renamed Kholo Enviroplan Reserve.
The area supports a wide variety of bird, mammal, reptile and amphibian species and adjoins a nature refuge to the west that is owned and managed by the State Government.
Together, the reserve and the refuge protect a dry vine forest vegetation complex that has almost completely disappeared from South-East Queensland.
Some of the key species in the area include Spectacled Monarch, Rose-crowned Fruit Dove, Noisy Pitta, Lloyd’s Native Olive and Platypus.
