These school holidays come along and meet the friendly sheep, alpacas, goats, geese, chickens and lambs at Haigslea EWE Nique Hobby Farm.

And while you are there, check out the coffee cart and enjoy some yummy homemade morning tea or have a cuppa and sit back on a hay bale and enjoy the rural setting.

Every child that visits during the holidays will receive a free seedling to take home.  Monday to Saturday (closed Sunday) from 9am to 1pm – starting Saturday 29th June through to Saturday 13th July.

Cost is $5 per person for everyone. Animal feed buckets $3 each, or four for $10.  Bookings are a must.

 

Animal encounters

Ipswich Nature Centre

The Ipswich Nature Centre in Ipswich’s historical Queens Park offers a magical opportunity to get up close and personal with Australian native wildlife. Stroll through shady walkways and see the cute residents such as wombats, wallabies, emus, quolls, and a nocturnal bilby exhibit. A vibrant rainforest bird aviary is alive with colour and sound, and youngsters will have a ball in the barn which has calves, lambs, chickens and peacocks.

Open seven days a week during School holidays and near the Japanese Nerima Gardens within Queens Park, the Ipswich Nature Centre is perfect family-friendly fun. Animal Encounters offer a chance to get behind the scenes at the Nature Centre and will run on July 1, 3, 5, 8, 10 and 12.

The tours give you the chance to learn about the centre, what goes into caring for wildlife and a chance to feed the barnyard animals.

Rock decorating

Creative Ipswich have partnered with Studio 188 to host a Rock Decorating Workshop these school holidays.

This is the perfect way to get creative and then get exploring with a Rock Hunt through the top of town!

There are two sessions one at 9:00am and another at 10:30am on July 12, book tickets online ahead of the event.

This is an all ages event and the workshops will be held at Studio 188.  Materials will be supplied for each participant to create a some rocks.

Rocks will be hidden throughout the Town of Town during the day for you to find and we encourage you to leave some for others to find too!

  • You are welcome to bring materials and rocks to add into the fun, please bring low mess options like sharpies and paint pens
  • There is a kiosk available for drinks and snacks at the venue (unfortunately there is no tea or coffee available on site)
  • If you some reason you can’t make the event and have booked tickets please let us know, so we can allocate them to someone else.

Switch Bricks is a pop up play space in Ipswich built with LEGO loving kids in mind.  There are so many different kinds of building activities on offer in every three hour session.  They will only be around for six days during these school holidays from July 1-6.  Tickets are $5 for 1-3 years old and $10 for 4-12 years old. Find them at 25 Cothill, Rd Booval.  

Burton’s Circus

Be entertained by a two-hour production that boasts acrobats, aerial artistry, clown antics, and Double Wheel of Destiny. Tickets and more information now available online at www.burtoncircus.com.  Shows between 28 June to 21 July.  Tickets from $25.

Pancake decorating

Bring the kids down to the Retro Diner in Brisbane St and decorate some delicious pancakes.  Cost is $5 and includes a hot chocolate.  The sessions will be held on July 1, July 2, July 8 and July 9.  Book on their Facebook page to reserve your place.

Reptile Day

Cuddle a reptile at Club Services Ipswich on July 3.  True Blue Reptiles mobile reptile show will get you up close and personal with some of Australia’s coolest native animals.  Photo opportunities available.  Event runs from 10.30am-12.30pm, RSVP by Monday July 1.  Drinks and ice-cream available, bring a cushion.

Burger making classes

The team from Grill’d at Orion Springfield will teach your little ones the tricks of the trade and show them how to make their famous burgers from the bun up! Held 10:30am Monday to Thursday each week. Bookings required. Book online, cost: $12 per child includes class, burger, chips and drink.

Swinging pendulums, turning cogs and spinning discs… come and play with the drawing machines!

Make a frenzy of marks with wind-up mice and chickens. Swing the pendulum table and see magic spirals appear. Experiment with a giant Spirograph to create large geometric designs. Every drawing made by these mesmerizing machines is one of a kind. Take your drawings home or hang them in the exhibition.  Held at the Ipswich Art Gallery from June 26- July 10.

See a brilliant array of catch-your-breath stunt work, acrobatics, juggling and the side-splitting, slapstick comedy for which the dummies are famous.

Join the Dummies and come diving from bathtubs to beaches in this new aquatic adventure!

Trash Test Dummies have been delighting audiences young and old with a nuanced blend of circus, comedy and imaginative play, creating shared and treasured experiences for families across Australia and around the world. Now, they’re ready to take you on a new adventure.

Splash Test Dummies will be held at the Ipswich Civic Centre on Wednesday July 3 from 1pm-2.30pm.

Tea brewing workshops

Tranquil Tea

Two special tea brewing workshops will be held at Tranquil Tea these school holidays. 

The first designed for mums and daughters (aged 11 and above) will be held on July 6. 

During the 1.5 hour interactive workshop mums and daughters can spend some quality time in a relaxed environment.  Be immersed in traditional Ceylon tea brewing and serving.  

Share personal experiences of the trainer as a tea brewer and a tea trailer.  Create your own take home tea gift.  

A second workshop will be held on July 9 for any children 11 years and above.

Day Out with Thomas

All aboard for a great day out.  The world’s most loved blue steam engine and his friends are enjoying winter school holiday fun at the Museum – for A Day Out with Thomas.

Meet Thomas the Tank Engine and The Fat Controller. Enjoy Hands-on Thomas activities including craft, colouring-in, games and puzzles.

Find mini Thomas on the huge model railway layout. Take a ride around the grounds on a mini train (additional charges apply). Let off some steam before home time in the indoor playground, Nippers Railway.

Bastille Day markets

The first Markets At The Boulevarde, featuring specialty stallholders, beautiful boutiques, and delicious eats in a stunning location, will be held during the June July school holiday period.

This first market celebrates Bastille Day, so expect to find all things French from entertainment, face painting and balloons, good food and more!

They will also have a special French-inspired Give Away from beautiful Country House for one lucky market goer on the day.

The Cottage kids high tea

Enjoy a delectable high tea experience every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday over the holidays, available for both parents and kids with a minimum of two.  On the menu is chicken and mayo, ham, cheese and tomato, egg and cress sandwiches. 

As well as scones with jam and cream, macaroons, mini lemon meringues, chocolate brownies and jelly cups.  Bookings are essential. event runs from 10am-2pm from July 3-12, price is $29 per person, and includes one drink per person.

Craft workshop

Visit the Spendless Shoes craft workshops and decorate your own notebook to take home. Find the area set up near Spendless Shoes at Orion Springfield Central from July 8 to 10 between 10am to 1pm. No bookings required. Cost is free.

LEGO mastermind

Unleash your inner LEGO mastermind and create something awesome with Springfield Central Library’s huge collection of DUPLO and LEGO bricks. Suitable for all ages.
