Where do your dinner plans head when the cooler months roll in? A hearty curry at Indian Mehfil? Or a premium steak at Bakehouse Steakhouse in a converted bakery building that has been proffering sustenance and warmth to Ipswich folk for more than a century? Some fine dining and an interesting red at The Cottage is always a treat too.

Here’s a couple more options we found on a quick tour of the heritage city this month…

Duck at Brothers

At Brothers Leagues Club catering manager Neil Smith has added twice cooked duck with steamed rice, Asian greens and Thai yellow curry sauce to the menu.

Think juicy tender duck with a gloriously crisp skin wafting curry aromatics when it lands at your table.

Volcano cake at Brothers

You might like to finish off with their Volcano Cake for dessert, a chocolate lover’s dream come true with oozy chocolate sauce and icecream, also chocolate flavoured.

PA Hotel Mega Texas with charred corn ribs

Across town at the PA Hotel, the mammoth menu continues to turn over with the seasons and they’ve recently added some new additions.

There’s a bacon cheeseburger pizza with beef patty chunks and bacon swimming atop a molten mozarella topping on a classic tomato base and a swirl of pickle-flavoured tomato sauce.

PA Hotel bread and butter pudding

Or try the new Mega Texas Parmi – it’s a 250g chicken fillet with smoky chipotle BBQ sauce, slow-cooked smoked brisket, crispy bacon strips and melted mozzarella, served with grilled Cajun ‘corn ribs’ and chips.

For dessert. there’s a ridiculously impossible-to-ignore warm bread and butter pudding made with custard and vanilla, cinnamon and sultana bread, served with luscious vanilla icecream.

Rafter & Rose vege sandwich

But if it’s a quick bite for lunch you’re looking for this autumn, head to Rafter & Rose for one of their loaded vege toasted sandwiches with spanking fresh greens, delicious pesto and smashing roasted pumpkin. That’s a hearty dose of autumn satisfaction right there.

Rafter & Rose is a leafy cafe in an historic part of Top of Town
