Christmas in Ipswich
The heritage city of Ipswich is turning on a glittering festive season this year with events that venture beyond the traditional carols and Christmas lights tours.

Dinner under the stars

Just to the west of the city, the beautiful plantation-style heritage estate, Woodlands of Marburg, hosts a Christmas dinner under the stars on December 15. It’s a buffet featuring all the Christmas favourites such as roast turkey, pork and lamb, glazed ham and a range of desserts for $49 per person. Book on 5464 4777.

December markets

Markets get their Christmas glow on this month including the Museum Twilight Markets at The Workshops Rail Museum (5-9pm) on Friday, December 15 and the Handmade Expo Markets at Tulmur Place, Ipswich (8am-1pm).

There’ll be a Christmas Twilight Market at Orion Springfield (10am-midnight) on Friday, December 22 with Springfield Markets stall holders adding to the mix – along with food stalls and entertainment.

Shopping nights

Lovely laneway café Rafter & Rose presents a shopping night from 5.30pm on Thursday, December 7.

And on December 19 there’ll be a Christmas shopping event from 4-9pm at the strip of Glebe St shops that is home to Furniture & Homewares Revival  and The Yard on Glebe café and more.

There are workshops too – you can make a Christmas wreath on December 10 at Dovetails restaurant.

And on December 13, Furniture & Homewares Revival at Booval hosts a Creative Christmas tree class.

Christmas Day lunch is served

There are still some places left for Christmas Day at Fenton’s at The Ipswich Club featuring a ‘Grand Buffet’ and seafood selection luncheon. Adults $140, young adults (13-17) $120 and children (5-12) $80. Book on email at [email protected]

Carols & Christmas lights tours

Traditional carols nights include the Western Gateway Carols on December 8 at Goodna and the Robelle Domain Carols on December 9 at Springfield Centre.

Entrants in the River 949 Christmas Lights Competition have lit up the city and voting has begun in the people’s choice wards. Take a tour or check out the list and use the map to plot your drive.
