Why Brookwater is now a fair way friendlier

Brookwater, the beautiful Greg Norman-designed golf course, is showing its softer side these days.

Brookwater Golf Course remains the tantalising challenge it always was but these days, after some careful renovations and a change of management, the winds of change are apparent. The greens are just a smidge larger, those fearsome bunkers a touch less daunting and the rough not quite so rough.

“We’ve made the course a bit more playable for the average golfer,” says business development manager Mick Burrill, of the course voted number one in Queensland by Golf Digest for 2018.

“We’ve made all of the greens on average 15 to 20 per cent bigger … the landing areas are now bigger and we’ve cleared out a lot of the bush to make it easier to find your ball if you do knock it off the fairway,” Mr Burrill said.

He said the feedback had been swift and positive all round.

“I’ve actually taken a few people out who’ve now gone around with the same ball and they’ve mentioned that they’d never done that before at Brookwater.”

Brookwater is known as a luxurious resort-style course with trees lining the fairways and a layout that means players never see more than one hole at once.

“You feel like it’s only you playing here,” Mr Burrill said.

“With the renovations all finished now and the course back to its former glory, we’re just excited to get people back out now and enjoying the course.”

Brookwater offers lessons – with 2016 Queensland coach of the year John Collins – and has a driving range open daily to the public.

The club house restaurant and cafe are also open daily and available to hire for events and functions.
