Australia Day has never looked this good before
There’s never been a more spirited line-up of things to do in the Ipswich region on an Australia Day long weekend.
Here are a few options to whet your appetite – and don’t forget Ipswich has a range of hotels with sparkling pools to escape to if you want to extend the day-trip to proper weekend away.
Say hello to Ungermann Brothers icecream
Homegrown Masterchef super star Ben Ungermann and brother Danny will open the doors to their new venture, Ungermann Bros Ice cream Parlour at 11am this Friday – Australia Day.
The outlet is a new entry to the 88 Limestone precinct set in the beautiful old heritage buildings of the Ipswich Technical College in the CBD. This site is also home to Dovetails restaurant and Pumpyard Brewery & Bar.
It’s a great example of the ways Ipswich’s heritage-listed buildings and laneways are providing a character-filled backdrop for new bars, cafes, restaurants and businesses these days.
The new icecream parlour, with groovy retro 50s-inpsired fit-out, will offer 15 different flavours the likes of which you won’t find any where else. The icecream is handmade from natural ingredients with no preservatives or stabilisers. Flavours include lavender & honeycomb; Dutch spice; cardamom coffee liqueur; lemon & thyme; dark chocolate & mandarin; and a lactose-free peanut butter and chocolate. There’ll even be cooking classes and dessert degustatons down the track.

A special Australia Day edition of the Springfield Markets rolls out from 2pm-8pm this Friday at Robelle Domain. There’s be cricket on the circle from 2pm, market stalls, fireworks and a movie on the big TV from 6.30pm!
