IPSWICH City Council’s Tourism Unit and local tourism partners have amplified efforts to achieve maximum tourism
exposure for the city by taking part in some large trade show and community events over the last 2 months:
Ipswich Secures its 1st Queensland Open

Queensland Open Bowls
IPSWICH City Council has partnered with Bowls Australia and Ipswich United Services Club to hold the Queensland Open bowls competition for the first time ever in Ipswich. Finals of the event held at the Ipswich United Services Bowls Club, will be telecast Australia-wide on Fox Sports and will be seen by international audiences on BSkyB.
The event is expected to attract 448 competitors, produce six episodes (108 minutes each) for Fox Sports and feature 4 minutes of postcard vignettes promoting the City of Ipswich. Ipswich City Council’s tourism website ‘Discover Ipswich’ will be featured on the bowling green signage that will be a key part of the telecast.

V8 Supercars Rev Up Tourism in Ipswich
IPSWICH City Council and Queensland Events have entered into a joint sponsorship agreement to secure V8 Supercars for a further three years at Queensland Raceway. The three year agreement provides a confidence boost to Ipswich tourism operators especially those in the accommodation sector.
Local tourism will also benefit from television promotion of Ipswich as a destination in its own right through the inclusion of Postcards from Ipswich segments during the broadcast.
A master plan for the Ipswich Motorsports Precinct was adopted by Ipswich City Council in 2005 aimed at strengthening its role as a nationally recognised motorsport arena. The five kilometre buffer zone around the precinct to protects the area from further residential development.

Ipswich's Newset Park Attraction

One of the many attractions of Robelle Domain
QUEENSLAND'S newest world-class family parkland was officially opened on Sunday 29 May in the Ipswich suburb of Springfield. The 24-hectare $30 million Robelle Domain formed part of the much larger Springfield Central Parklands and was one of the most anticipated new parkland areas in south east Queensland. Key features of the parklands include:
- many new recreational and play areas included in the parkland
- a zero-depth wet play area and playground
- spaces for families to explore the outdoors and have fun, exercise, learn or just enjoy the wide open spaces
- five kilometres of walkways and boardwalks and a tree top walk through native eucalypts
- a large amphitheatre surrounded by a series of computer operated sound and projection lighting towers, which will allow the park to host night events
The park also feature another first for Ipswich with the inclusion of Australia's first on-line interactive playground hardware. A great addition to Ipswich’s Family Fun offer for visitors and residents.

Brisbane Industry Update - Tourism Queensland is holding their last Brisbane Industry Update for the financial year. The purpose of the update is to help keep you informed of their programmed activity and upcoming opportunities. The update will be held on Friday 24 June and will provide an update on the topics including tourism recovery, Brisbane campaign activity and the Great Sunshine Way. Plenty of Flood Recovery Support Available
- Tourism Capacity Program - Tourism Queensland is coordinating a series of capacity building workshops and programs to assist tourism businesses with the process of recovery after the recent extreme weather events. These workshops are free to QLD Tourism businesses. Some of these workshops are being held in Ipswich an some of the topics covered are online marketing, writing media releases and crisis management. - Small Business Financial Counselling - The Queensland Government ‘s Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) are offering free professional financial counselling for small businesses in Ipswich to help with flood recovery. - ‘Take it all in my Stride’ Program - The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) in partnership with industry and training experts have designed a unique business development program that will support and assist Queensland tourism businesses to cope with and more importantly excel in a challenging environment caused by the extreme weather events at the start of the year. This program is unique in its focus on assisting business to businesses to innovate, reinvent and create a strategy to ensure sustainable business continuity. - Business Recovery Coaching Program - QTIC, through State Government funding, is also providing tourism businesses with the opportunity to gain an intensive 1 on 1 business coaching session. This support is available now as an immediate resource for businesses throughout Queensland until the end of June 2011. The program includes an evaluation of the business and 2 hour individual support session with a business coach to act as a sounding board and provide advice on business needs.
